Holly L. Masel, M.D.
Dr. Masel is a Kansas City native who has called the Washington area home for the past five years. From an early age, she knew she wanted to pursue a career in medicine. That general ambition evolved over time into a specialized concern for women's health care and education. Dr. Masel took her first steps toward that goal by graduating cum laude from Wake Forest University with a Bachelors of Science in 1996. Her post-graduate work followed at St. George's University School of Medicine, where she earned numerous academic honors before graduating in 2002.
Dr. Masel then moved to Washington, DC to complete her OBGYN residency at Georgetown University Hospital. During her time there, Dr. Masel received many prestigious awards. In addition to the Certificate of Achievement for excellence in medical student education, which she received all four years of her residency, Dr. Masel also earned top honors for clinical excellence in Gynecology Oncology and in Maternal Fetal Medicine.
Dr. Masel has active privileges at the Virginia Hospital Center and continues to mentor Georgetown residents and medical students. Dr. Masel is a member of the American Medical Association and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Kathryn Born, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.
Dr Kathryn Born was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She enjoyed her Midwestern/Southwestern upbringing, and therefore chose to attend Kenyon college (Gambier, Ohio), where she also received a full scholarship. Though it was known for its English department, it was there that she developed an interest in science and research. She graduated summa cum laude and with high honors in both mathematics and molecular biology. She initially chose to pursue a combined MD-PhD at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, NY. She toiled in the lab for three years before deciding that her heart was truly on the clinical side of medicine. Despite achieving highest honors on her Masters degree, she ultimately chose to interrupt her PhD training and complete only the MD, after which she joined her husband Timothy in Washington, DC.
During clinical rotations in medical school, she developed a strong interest in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She was drawn by the excitement and magic of witnessing and participating in the birth of a child and the transformation to motherhood. She also enjoyed gynecology and gynecologic surgery. She ultimately took a residency position at Georgetown University Hospital, where she met Dr. Crowther and Dr. Masel; training in part under Dr. Rossi’s guidance. She served as a chief resident at Georgetown her senior year, followed by an appointment to the Georgetown faculty. Still not certain after five years that Washington, DC would be her permanent home, she chose to take a job in private practice in Reston, Virginia. After the birth of her daughter Molly in April 2008, the opportunity arose to practice among friends at Arlington Women’s Center, so she jumped at the chance to ‘come home’. In her free time she swims with the Arlington ‘Ageless Masters’ swim team and enjoys day trips to the Shenandoah mountains to hike.
Her clinical interests are in providing the most caring prenatal and gynecologic experience for women and in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. She also enjoys the chance to teach residents and students from Georgetown.
Jennifer M. Biggs, M.D.
Dr. Biggs was born in Washington, DC. Soon after, her father joined the Foreign Service, and she spent most of her childhood overseas, living in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Lisbon, Portugal; and La Paz, Bolivia. After graduating from Walt Whitman HS in Bethesda, Maryland, Dr. Biggs went to Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, where she graduated with a double major in Biology and Economics.
It was during a summer in Haiti at Hôpital Albert Schweitzer that Dr. Biggs first suspected she might want to be a doctor. While cultivating this possible career choice, she completed a two-year fellowship at the NIH working on vaccine development. Dr. Biggs then received a Masters in Nutrition at the University of Maryland and completed her R.D. (registered dietitian) internship at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
Dr. Biggs graduated from Georgetown School of Medicine and decided to stay at Georgetown for her OB GYN residency. During her senior year of residency she served as a chief resident. Dr. Biggs received the Gynecologic Oncology and Uro-gynecology awards for clinical excellence. Her research project on Semen Parameters and IUI Outcomes was awarded first prize at the OB GYN Resident Research Day. She is thrilled to be joining the practice, as Drs. Rossi, Crowther, Masel, and Born have all served as her role models during residency training.
Dr. Biggs has been married eight years. She and her husband live with their six-year old daughter, three-year old son, and five-year old chocolate lab. She enjoys running and has completed eleven Marine Corps Marathons. She also enjoys cooking, reading novels, and traveling.
